My Plea:
I was completely overwhelmed and very humbled to have been nominated and shortlisted for the Midwife of the Year award at the Butterfly awards. It is a testament to the families who have been through such a life changing experience to still take the time to acknowledge those around them and what they have done.
I have been working as a Bereavement Support Midwife for just over two years and during this time have supported families through some of the most life changing and difficult times in their lives. I often feel privileged that the families allow me to be part of their journey and often one of the few people to meet their precious little ones.
I see my role as helping to guide families through the minefield of pregnancy loss, whether that be through miscarriage, termination for fetal anomalies, stillbirth or neonatal death. Being able to reassure families that what they are thinking and feeling is normal as well as helping navigate through the journey, with all the information that they could need, to make the correct choices for them as a family. Also, ensuring the service we provide is ever changing and listening to the feedback and experiences of families to provide the highest quality of care.
Being able to support families to make memories with their baby is something I am extremely passionate about, with money raised by families we have cared for we are now able to provide more memory making opportunities than ever before which I know makes a massive difference to families moving forward
I can only thank the families that I have supported during their loss for allowing me to be a part of their story and hopefully helping them through their journey of pregnancy and baby loss.

process relaxed and a positive one. She’s a true asset to the NHS! She takes the time to listen, help and make you feel relaxed. 1st class who deserves this nomination without question.

We couldn’t agree more. Ashlea has been a complete rock for us in the past 9 weeks since our baby girl, Sophie, was stillborn. She was there when we received the news that Sophie had died and we were lucky enough to have her deliver our daughter as well. She has listened to me crying so many times and because of Ashlea (and the whole bereavement midwife team) the whole thing has been so much more bearable. We literally will not be able to thank Ashlea enough for the support and kindness she has given us.
Hi being a retired midwife I just wish we had midwives like Ashley then to support grieving mothers.

I First met Ashlea 2 years ago next week. She is an amazing young lady, she is wise beyond her years. She cared for our baby daughter Dottie who was born sleeping and she even helped and gave me the confidence to dress my baby, assuring me that I was doing fine. Ashlea asked out permission to take photos while we spent time with our daughter and now they are the only photos we will ever have, I cherish them so much. Ashlea then also visited us when I had my rainbow baby, which was so lovely of her. The NHS are so lucky to have lovely people like you Ashlea, one of a kind
Ashlea is probably the kindest and most thoughtful person I have ever met and goes above and beyond the requirements of her role on a daily basis. Nothing is too much trouble.

Helped a friend and his wife through what I can only imagine to be the worst experience in life when it really should have been the most exciting, starting a family bringing new life into the world. Without people like Ashlea my friends journey through their tough time would have been very dark. May Ashlea’s ray of light shine brightly to guide others to a brighter place.

Ashlea is so compassionate and hard working she loves every aspect of her work. For such a young person she has a lot to deal with but does it all in her stride. She totally deserves this award and is a credit to the team she works with.

I would like to vote for Ashley Gormley
I’ve watched Ashlea develop into the caring, compassionate and committed midwife she is today. Her strength of character, her morale compass and her private code of ethics makes her perfect for the role. She has engaged on a continual professional development plan and along with this challenging role, she is completing her masters.
Further to the above she has rallied friends and family round to participate in fundraising events to raise money to improve the environment in which families meet, love and greave for the loss they have had. Ashlea also has engaged family to knit/crochet garments for sleeping babies to meet their parents, and premature babies who require smaller garments. There is no end to the lengths she will go to ensure the needs of the parents she works with are met to highest standard.
She is completely devoted to the role she has undertaken and to the parents that have been entrusted with her care.
I wish Ashlea the very best for her future career and hope that her efforts, albeit she would not recognise herself in the high regards we all do, the best of luck in winning this award; it is totally deserved and would be humbly received. ❤
